This piece represents the physical and emotional transmutation of trauma — a concept I've decided to call traum(u)tation. Trauma can be heavy, challenging, overwhelming and debilitating, but when we realise it is ours, and no longer belongs to what or who did the ‘doing’, we can use it as a catalyst for transformation. As a survivor of abuse, alongside countless others, both my art and music aim to tell the stories of lost, hidden and silenced voices, with a particular focus on women, trauma, and abuse. For me, it’s the process of evolving and shapeshifting through life, as well as the reclamation of power and autonomy that was once lost or stolen.
